Apprentice Financial Support
Apprentices may be eligible to receive financial assistance to help cover their expenses during technical training, such as living expenses, dependent and childcare expenses, commuting costs, travel costs for relocation to temporary residence at the beginning and end of technical training, disability related costs and living away from home costs to maintain temporary residence.
Apprentice Income Support
Financial support in the form of a taxable grant may be used to cover the cost of tuition, books, living expenses and extraordinary living expenses for registered apprentices. The assistance is based on demonstrated financial need.
Apprenticeship Completion Grant
A taxable cash grant available to registered apprentices who successfully complete their apprenticeship training and obtain journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal trade on or after January 1, 2009. To be eligible, an apprentice must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, not in high school, and meet the application deadline. The grant is for $2,000.
Apprenticeship Completion Signing Bonus in Non-Red Seal Trades
The apprenticeship completion bonus is a taxable cash grant of $2,000 for apprentices in non-Red Seal trades. The grant is available to registered apprentices after they obtain their Certificate of Apprenticeship and, where available, their Certificate of Qualification.
Apprenticeship Incentive Grant
A taxable cash grant available to registered Red Seal apprentices who have successfully completed the first or second year/level. The apprentice must be registered, a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, not in high school, in a Red Seal program designated in their region, and meet the application deadline. Grant is $1,000 per year, up to a maximum of $2,000 per person.
